Smallfolk Monthly #9 - Electronic Proofs and Poll Results
15 days ago – Wed, Jul 29, 2026 at 09:52:00 AM

Welcome, adventurers, to the 9th instalment of our Smallfolk monthly updates. This one is a little shorter than usual, but the news is just as exciting!

E-Proofs

With all files translated and localisation complete, we've received the electronic proofs for every component and are currently carrying out the final review.

There are almost 5GB of files to inspect across all languages, so it's taking a little time to make sure every card, token, and rulebook is exactly as it should be. Once we're happy that everything is perfect, we'll give the green light for printing.

It's been a long journey to get to this stage, and we're incredibly excited to finally be this close to production!

Poll Results

515 votes were cast to decide which playmat would be included in the Deluxe Upgrades box, and there could only be one winner...

The Holographic Tapestry Map

Thank you to everyone who voted! The Holographic Tapestry Map will now be included in every Deluxe Upgrades box. We can't wait to see it shimmering on your tables!

We'd love to hear from you this month. Have you backed a game recently that deserves a little more attention? Let us know in the comments! We're always looking to discover and support fellow indie creators, and we'd love to check out some of the exciting games currently on the horizon.

What's Next?

Over the next month we'll be completing our proof checks and, assuming everything looks as expected, giving the go-ahead for mass production.

We'll also be sharing photos from the factory as soon as we're able. We can't wait to give you a behind-the-scenes look at Smallfolk as it gets printed!

Smallfolk Monthly #8 - Playmat Poll(!), Manufacturing, and Shipping
about 2 months ago – Wed, Jun 24, 2026 at 09:29:03 AM

This is the 8th instalment of our Smallfolk monthly updates! Here's the latest from us here at Roc Nest Games.

UKGE 2026 - Thank You!

UKGE was so fun for us this year, and we'd like to say a huge thank you to everyone who stopped by to see us.

The prototype was incredibly well received by everyone who saw it, and it was fantastic to meet so many fans of both Smallfolk and Chroma Arcana in person. Seeing people experience our games, hearing their feedback, and chatting with members of our community were easily the highlights of the weekend!

Deluxe Playmat Poll

We brought two different versions of the deluxe neoprene playmat prototype with us to UKGE, and now we'd like your help deciding which version should make it into the final game.

Both feature foil outlines to indicate where cards go - one with a holographic rainbow finish and the other with a luxurious gold finish.

Holographic (upper) vs Gold (lower)

We'd love to hear which one you prefer. Cast your vote in the poll below and help shape the final version of Smallfolk!

Manufacturing & Shipping

Translations and localisation work are almost complete, and we're currently running our final checks before the next steps.

Following feedback and observations from UKGE, we want to get another prototype with some improvements to the components before moving into mass production. Quality is important to us, and we want the final version of Smallfolk to be the best it can possibly be.

As a result, we're currently running approximately 1-2 months behind our original schedule. We'd much rather take a little extra time and deliver the best version of Smallfolk than rush the process unnecessarily.

While timelines can always change, we're still hopeful that everyone will receive their copy of Smallfolk before the end of the year!

General News

Indie Spotlight

We have two recommendations this month, both from fellow UK publishers that we had the pleasure of meeting at UKGE.

Carta Imperia is a devious deal-making game of power politics set during the rise of the Roman Republic. Players take on the role of rival noble families, negotiating, scheming, forming alliances and occasionally betraying one another as they compete to become the most influential figure in Rome. It combines empire-building with plenty of player interaction, where every deal can reshape the game and every alliance is temporary.

Orbs vs Drones is an asymmetric two-player strategy game in which invading alien Orbs attempt to conquer Earth while humanity's Drones fight to close their portals and repel the invasion. Both sides play very differently, creating a tense cat-and-mouse battle with clever tactical decisions and an exciting endgame as the alien mothership enters the conflict.

We always love highlighting fellow indie creators, so please consider checking them out and showing them some support.

Smallfolk Monthly #7 - Art Poll, UKGE 2026, and Translations
3 months ago – Wed, May 20, 2026 at 08:37:46 AM

This is the 7th instalment of our Smallfolk monthly updates! Here's the latest from us here at Roc Nest Games.

Art Print Polls Results

Over 1,000 votes were cast for your favourite art prints to be included in every copy of Smallfolk, and we finally have the results.

While some of the voting was close, we have our four winners: the Storyteller, the Selkie, the Hound of Tartarus, and the Kitsune.

Thank you to everyone that voted. We're planning to hang these beautiful illustrations on our wall when our copy of the game arrives, and we hope you'll do the same.

UKGE 2026

With UKGE just one week away, we've been busy getting everything ready. We will have new banners, a new pin badge, and the final Smallfolk prototype with us to show off. This includes the deluxe upgrades and the Taller Talesmini-expansion. We can't wait for you to see it in person!

Come find us at stall 3-205 - we'd love to say hello!

Pssst, don't forget - we'll also have the very special Tanuki Teakettle pin badge available for free in limited quantities.

Translations and Localisations

Smallfolk will be available in at least six languages, and completing all translation and localisation work is an important step before we begin the printing process.

We're pleased to announce that most of this work is now complete, and we're just waiting on a few remaining files from our partners. We're hoping to begin printing shortly afterwards.

As a reminder, this means that we'll soon be locking orders and charging cards. The current plan is to lock orders on June 5th and charge cards on June 12th.

You'll still be able to edit your address after these dates, but make sure any changes to your pledge are completed before June 5th.

Smallfolk Monthly #6 - Art Prints and UKGE 2026
4 months ago – Tue, Apr 28, 2026 at 08:39:19 AM

Welcome to the 6th instalment of our Smallfolk monthly updates. We've got three exciting things to share today, so let's jump right in.

Art Print Polls

Back in October, we smashed our funding target and unlocked a heap of stretch goals. One of these was that each copy of Smallfolk would include four art prints as chosen by you, our fans.

Well, the time has come. We're opening the Art Print poll today!

If you'd like to help shape what goes into your Smallfolk box, click the link above to head over to BoardGameGeek and cast your vote. The poll will be open for two weeks, after which we'll lock in the final selections.

UKGE 2026

UKGE is just one month away, and we're so excited to attend with both Chroma Arcana and Smallfolk.

We'll be bringing along the final Smallfolk prototype, complete with all deluxe upgrades and the Taller Tales mini-expansion. We can't wait for you to see it in person!

Don't forget, we'll also have the very special Tanuki Teakettle pin badge available in limited quantities.

Come find us at stall 3-205 - we'd love to say hello!

Locking Orders

We're getting very close to the next big step: locking orders and charging cards. The plan is that we'll lock orders on June 5th and charge cards on June 12th.

You'll still be able to edit your address after these dates - but make sure you've made all changes to your pledge before June 5th!

Indie Spotlight

It's no surprise that we love skirmish games, but we often find they can take a while to get going. Sudden Conflict is designed to get you into the action as quickly as possible.

We've had the chance to play a couple of games with the creators, and those matches have been fast, furious, and a lot of fun. That's why this month, we're supporting their crowdfunding relaunch!

If you enjoy this style of game, it's definitely one to check out.

Smallfolk Monthly #5 - Translations & file updates
5 months ago – Mon, Mar 30, 2026 at 06:30:05 AM

March has been a whirlwind of activity on our end. We're excited to share that almost all of the files have been verified, and translations are underway! We are anticipating a small delay - more on that below.

Translations and Manufacturing

All of our international publishing partners are making great progress translating Smallfolk into their respective languages. Once translations are complete, we'll carry out final checks before moving everything into manufacturing.

We've hit a minor snag with some of the legal text on the box - things like EU representative details and small parts warning. While the core files are ready, this has delayed finalising the box designs (as well as various labels that are included).

The good news is that this is in the process of being resolved thanks to the phenomenal work from the team over at Naylor Games! We expect manufacturing to begin as soon as this is wrapped up.

UKGE Reminder

As you may know, we'll be attending UKGE this year - and we'll have a very special Tanuki Teakettle pin badge available!

Come find us at stall 3-205 to grab one while stocks last - we'd love to see you there!

Pledge Manager

Almost all backers have now completed their Pledge Manager surveys.

If you haven't received yours, check your spam or promotions folder. If it's still missing, use the survey recovery page.

Please complete your survey as soon as possible. The sooner we have everything locked in, the quicker we can start the next production steps.
Note: Your address will remain editable right up until we begin fulfilment.

Late Pledge store

Missed the Kickstarter? No problem!

The Pledge Manager will remain open for late pledges for the next few months, so there's still time to secure your copy of Smallfolk.

If you know anyone who might have missed the campaign, feel free to point them towards our Late Pledge store - we'd really appreciate it!

Indie Spotlight

Xorakus is a game launch that we've been greatly anticipating. Martin has created a fantastic survival experience where your ship becomes marooned on an alien planet, and the game is full of exploration and atmosphere.

It's currently closing in on its funding goal and could use a final push. We think it would be a great addition to any board game collection!

What's next?

As we gear up to UKGE, we'll be sharing more updates about it over the coming month. We'll also keep you posted as soon as we have further news on manufacturing.

From all of us at Roc Nest Games, thank you again for your continued support. If there's anything you'd like us to cover in future updates, let us know in the comments and we'll be happy to include it!
